I recently did an overnight hike and took the Adventure Bundle. Let me first say the gear inside the pack performed perfectly and flawlessly. I love the tent. It's easy to set up with good ventilation. It rained hard during my trip and the tent didn't leak a drop. The sleeping pad is probably one of the best I've ever used. Very comfortable and didn't lose any air during the night. The sleeping bag is great. It wasn't cold where I camped but wet. The dampness made for cool temps in the early morning and when I pulled the sleeping bag up on me you could feel the instant warmth from it. The backpacking stove worked flawlessly as well. Now, the downside for me was the actual fit of the backpack. I love how the backpack is designed with the compartments and all the pockets. However, I found it to be extremely uncomfortable while hiking with it loaded up. The shoulder straps really dug into me and it was painful. The sternum strap rode into my Adams apple and was very annoying. No matter how tight I tightened the hip belt, the pack wouldn't stop sliding down my back. I am a large framed guy and maybe this pack isn't made for bigger people. I loved everything else about the pack but it was probably the most uncomfortable pack I've ever worn and I've worn many. I will keep all the other great gear and probably move it to a different pack. This pack is made and designed very well , but for me, it's just too uncomfortable to wear.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Adventure Bundle. We’re thrilled to hear how well the tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and stove all performed on your trip—that’s exactly the kind of reliability we strive for in every piece of gear.
We also really appreciate your honest feedback on the backpack fit. Comfort is critical, and we’ve found that for larger torso sizes above 22 inches (56 cm), the pack does not perform as well. The recommended torso range is 14 to 22 inches, which tends to fit best for people between about 5 ft and 6 ft 2 in tall. Anything outside that range may not fit properly, which may explain your experience.
That said, there are some adjustments that can often improve comfort:
Torso Size Setting: Ensure the back panel is set to the correct torso length (S, M, or L).
Load Lifters: Adjust the straps at the top of the pack to take weight off your shoulders and improve positioning.
Fit Straps: Using the shoulder straps and waist belt together for a snug, supportive fit makes a big difference.
For those with torso sizes above 22 inches, we know the sternum strap can be more challenging. The good news is that this fall we’ll be releasing a new revision of the DEAN pack that includes additional adjustment options for both the shoulder straps and sternum strap to better accommodate a wider variety of body types.
Your feedback is incredibly valuable and will continue to help us refine our designs. Our goal is to make our packs as comfortable as possible across a broad range of body sizes while keeping them simple to use and affordable.
Thanks again for putting our gear to the test and sharing your insights!
Adventure on,
The Near Zero Team
Love the backpack and tent. Backpack front access make it very convenient go get items I need from my pack and makes packing/unpacking so
much quicker. Love the tent !!!
I can't say enough about my Near Zero Adventure Pack! The design is so well thought out, allowing you to intuitively pack for trips in the backcountry and be super organized. The tent is incredibly simple - the bag is my favorite part! Compression sack and wide opening draw string enclosure?! Yes, please. The quilt is so compact and warm - just tested it out on an overnight where the low was around 40 F and I was comfortable. If you're looking for a sign to get some quality gear at a really great price, and have it all be in one bundle, here it is! Thank you Near Zero :)
An excellent package, particularly for newer backpackers: full of light necessities to enjoy nature to the fullest.
